When you have kids, you know that you have to teach them how to be responsible. Their responsibility level is going to grow as they get older and have to take care of themselves, but the more responsibility you instill into them at an early age, the better they will do later on in life. Of course, there are a lot of different ways to make sure that your kids learn some responsibility, but one of the best ways is through giving them rewards that they have got to work for. One of the best rewards that most kids want is to have their own cell phone. But if you pay for it for them, they will not learn anything about how to be responsible.
Responsibility cannot be instilled into a child through punishments alone. They also have to be given responsibilities which, if they are fulfilled, will produce a positive, noticeable result. For instance, if you provide prepaid cell phones and make them responsible for the bill, they are going to either go without it after a little while (if they neglect to pay the bill), or they are going to learn how to make and use money a little bit more responsibly than they would if you simply presented them with a phone where the bill is just magically paid every month.
Simply put, the level of responsibility that you force your kids to develop is the level that they are going to have. The more you make your kids plan out, the better they are going to get at planning for their own futures. And while just having a cell phone which requires them to pay the bill might not seem like very much, it is definitely a step in the right direction. After all, every time your child has to take responsibility for themselves, they have no choice but to become more responsible people.
