Divorce can be such a traumatizing experience. There are a lot of emotions, hurt feelings, and negativity. Plus, you are left to figure out the next steps of your life, without the person you thought you were going to spend forever with. Divorce is scary, yet there are steps you can take to help you get through the hardest times. Here are some ideas we have about coping with divorce.

1.    First of all, pay attention to your emotional needs. You will feel all kinds of different and new emotions as you move through the stages of divorce. It is important that you find a support group or some counseling to help you sort through the feelings.

2.    Keep physically fit. You will be very stressed, emotionally and physically, during this time. One way to help combat stress is to exercise at least 30 minutes a day. You will find you are better able to handle the day-to-day decisions, plus you will probably sleep better at night as well.

3.    Forgive yourself. Recognize that the divorce was necessary and there is nothing you can do to change the situation. It does not do any good to blame yourself or emotionally beat yourself up because of the divorce. Forgive yourself and move on.

4.    Give yourself permission to grieve. It is alright if you need to cry, get angry, or feel emotionally. Give yourself the permission to feel and recognize the different emotions.

Nobody ever hopes for a divorce the day they walk down the aisle and say “I do.” Unfortunately, life is not a fairly tale and these things happen. Keep the tips and ideas we shared here in mind as you move through the steps of your divorce. Before long, you will be back to your normal self where you feel happy and confident.
